Mechanical Aptitude
Mechanical Reasoning or Mechanical Aptitude Tests assess Candidate’s ability to apply basic physical, mechanical, and technical principles in specific situations.
Mechanical aptitude tests are a part of the selection process in a large number of jobs such as: aircraft technician, auto mechanic, and machine operators.
These tests are meant specifically for examining the ability of the candidate in extending fundamental concepts to practical application, rather than purely assessing only theoretical knowledge. These tests also examine the candidate’s knowledge of the fundamentals underlying the operation, maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. They are typically required in assessment centers institution and industries that offer job roles such as engineer, technician, plumber, electrician, firefighter, and other blue-collar jobs.
In ISSB, these are meant to assess Candidate’s ability to handle the situation, presence of mind and Problem solving Techniques and Strategy.
Various names are used to describe Mechanical Aptitude Tests:
- Mechanical Aptitude TestMechanical Reasoning TestMechanical Psychometric TestMechanical Comprehension Test
These names described the same tests and are interchangeable.
Pattern of Mechanical Aptitude Test
These tests are taken in Multiple Choice Questions form commonly known as MCQ’s. These are presented in Color OR Black and White Form. These are time limited.
Evaluation of Mechanical Aptitude Test
Mechanical Comprehension Tests evaluate the candidate’s competence and basic mechanical knowledge according to the following criteria:
- Mechanical reasoning skills
- Understanding and application of basic mechanical and physical concepts
- Understanding of basic electrical principles
- Spatial reasoning: visualizing shapes in three dimensions
